High CS Ping?

Hey, so when i play 1.6 cs, searching for servers i get average ping around 300. If it let the server list load, ill get like 5-10 servers around 30-50. But thats after waitin 10 minutes.

If i join a game in a server with 250+ ping, i recieve no lag however my ping still shows extremely high. Most servers end up kicking me because i have a high showing ping, and may be effecting them.

I was wondering what kind of tips or things i can do to make my ping show lower, or be lower in general.

Install drivers to your network card, make sure the firmware on your router is up to date and set up correctly.
You may also need to call your isp and make sure your modem is configured properly.
