Solved High GTX 260 Temps

Hi all i have a XFX Gtx 260 Black edition video card it is Pre-Overclocked and the Fan Stays At 40% and When it gets to the 70 degrees range the fan goes up between 40-50% playing Games i See a Max of 80 Degrees Celsius Floats Around 74-80 Mainly Though in game and basically this high of a temp can i burn my gpu for playing for hours at such high temps and what would be too hot to cause problems please respond

Believe it or not that's not completely insane for that gpu to be at full load.
You could probably reduce the max temp by adding additional fans/air flow to your computer case.

The 260 gpu's thermal threshold is closer to 100c if some are to be believed its even higher than that.
You are at the lowest end of 'concern' with heat in that regard.

yeah it is factory overclocked like you say so it's going to run a tad hotter anyhow.

Yes, you are fine with those temps. These video cards are designed to run at that range. My GTX 570 is in the 80's when I play BF3.

Hi there,

If you really want to keep the card running cooler:

- Check the XFX website for BIOS updates for your card (may fix the fan speed issue)
- Use a software based utility to manually set the fan speed of your card. some OC'n programs allow you to do so.

If it's a problem with the fan itself, consider replacing it with a third-party VGA HSF (Cooler).

Reviver, just for the record, what he's getting ARE normal operating range for that series of gpu.

Motherboard BIOS Is up to date Fan Speed is not the Issue that's the pre-sets for my old gpu with the newest driver and i used to use evga precision x but it seems to be the cause of some bsod ever since i removed it i haven't had a bsod in my game yet and seeing how evga precision msi afterburner and riva tuner have the same driver i can't use them and i have no luck with speed fan so i just need better case cooling which i will be getting soon thanks for the post though

Many of the tuning tools you get with your motherboard cd are horribly dated, and generally do contain system drivers that allow them to do what they do.
Generally going to the manufacturer's website and getting the newest version of the app will be enough to stop the bsod's.
