Hi,

When I want to select many files in a folder, I have to pause over each one for a while until it changes from a translucent shade to solid. This annoys the hell out of me as it slows me down when working in Windows. TBH, this was a problem in Vista as well, but I always seemed to fix it by unchecking some of the visual options. This doesnt seem to work in Windows 7. Any a solution to this?

Thanks

Drag a selection box around them? Hold down Ctrl when you select them?

Thanks for the replies guys. The way I've always selected multiple files was to hold control and move the curser over the files. This was very quick if involving many files in random places and the files would be highlighted instantaneously. I think this is much quicker than using check boxes or clicking on the individual files.

However, I cant seem to do that in W7. I mean I'm sure I can but I wish I knew which setting controlled the highlight behavior and why it paused for so long to be highlighted. This issue existed in Vista as well, but was easily solved by unchecking some of the visual options which doesnt seem to work in W7.

Thanks.

Blued,

I have mine set to single click in Folder Options, and have about a 1/2 second auto select when hovering on an item. You might double check to make sure that you do not have it set to double click instead.

Ha ha, found it! It was this setting in the registry that caused the highlight delay:

[HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Mouse]
"MouseHoverTime"="400"

I knocked off a couple of zeros, its now 4. Logged off/on and highlighting is immediate now. :D

Hello,

Does anyone know how I can change this remotely? The end user is a pain and won't let me get on her machine.

Thank you.

I just noticed this was a 2009 post. This issue is present in one of my users laptops. When accessing network locations, selecting files takes 3-5 sections per file. Same exact issue as blued. Local browsing is normal, it only happens on network locations.
