Home Network Date & Time Error

I have an Buffalo Link Station on my home network. It's working ok except the time stamp on files is wrong. Like 2012. The rest of the system is ok. I have recently updated from XP to Win 7 and started using the Buffalo again.

If you cant change it to the correct date from the http;//192.168.1.1 (you will have to check your ipconfig to see it thats right ip) you should be able telnet into it and use the date command

If the bios time isn't set correctly it can cause this type of problem.

Most routers also have a method for setting the time/date settings.

Thanks for the info. I can get onto the setup page on the Buffalo Link Station but cannot change anything. I have two Buffalo reports that point to the problem. One says I need to enable the NTP server in the Link Station. The other says windows 7 has a problem communicating with older Link Stations. The fix is to change Windows 7 Security Options. "Network Security: LAN Manager authentication level" to "send LM & NTLM responses". The instructions to do this relate to Windows Professional. I have Home Premium. There is a thread on this forum that says it is not available on Home Premium.

That setting shouldn't be required in order to access your own router.

Those setting are typically used to gain access to older servers from newer Op systems, I have posted those same setting myself multiple times but never for this type of problem.

And yes, those settings aren't available on Home Premium although there are some registry settings that can have the same effect, that is a long shot however.

What is the model number of your router that might help ?
lookup the ntp server for your location and dont use http://ntp blaa bla bla use the ip number of the server you may also have to pick a server that uses the old style of sending the time info to your router
If it's an old router you might not have the option to change the date past 2012
that's why I suggested you might have to telnet into your router, it's not that hard to change the date if its an open source Linux running busy box which I think a lot of buffalo routers use

The Model is Buffalo LS500GL It's just over 6 years old.
I am using Microsoft Outlook 2007 and writing directly to the Buffalo. Using "Note" as a test it also saves the file with a 2012 date. However, I can change the file dates on the Buffalo using ZTREEWIN. Files are copied to the Buffalo with the correct date. I am not familiar with telnet but see what info I can find out.

The Flyer from Buffalo says this a Win7 problem which they cannot fix, hence the NTP server workround. I have never done a registry edit but there is always a first time!. I will take a system image first.
