Home Network Problems

I'm having a terrible time setting up my home network, and I hope someone can help.
I just finished building a computer for my kids, and that required me to move around some hardware in order for them to have internet access. Here's what I have:
Comcast triple play with Arris TM402P feeding the internet to my house. I have that directly connected to my primary home computer via ethernet cable (to the on-board Realtek PCIe GBE). My primary computer has internet access with no problems, and I intend to have the other computers and devices (TV, Blu Ray player) connect to the internet through it. I installed a Realtek RTL8139/810x into an available PCI slot to connect the other stuff. Directly out from that is my Linksys PLTE200 powerline network adapter. At the other end of that is the PLTS200 with 4 ports. I have my TV and Blu Ray plugged into 2 ports, and my Netgear WGT 634U wireless router plugged into the 3rd. My kids computer is in a different room, and has a Netgear WG311v3 wireless card plugged into a PCI slot. The kids' computer will connect to the WGT634U, but will not show up on the network (on the primary computer) and will not be able to access the internet.

Prior to building my kids' computer, I had the comcast modem plugged into the WGT634U, and everything else was plugged into that. Everything was running fine, and my home network showed both of my other computers, and I could share files, the printer, and everything. Now, the primary computer shows 2 networks in the network and sharing center. One is called "Network" (and is the one connected to the cable modem, and the internet) with the connection being "local area connection", and the other is called "unidentified network" with the connection being "home network" and has no internet connection. I tried enabling internet connection sharing on the "network" connection, and got the error message: "the service cannot accept control messages at this time".

I've already turned off the wireless router's "routing" function, which I hoped would turn it into a bridge, but that didn't work. I'm at a loss, now, and very frustrated.

I tried to attach a screenshot of my IPconfig, but when I click on "manage attachments", I get a popup that says "internet explorer has stopped working". I get it in both 64 bit and 32 bit versions of explorer. That's another thing that has annoyed me to no end since "upgrading" to Windows 7, 64 bit. I thought 64 bit was ready for primetime, but I guess not until Java and flash player and many others decide to support it.

You got a crazy configuration!

Why do you have the comcast feeding into your main computer and not a router?

I have a similar problem. It seems to be "random" when I could choose to name the "unidentified network". I'm still working on other areas. I've got 3 computers (Win 7 x64) running with internet off of wireless cards via router and for local file transfer I've got a 10/100 Mbps switch. However the speeds are HORRIBLE. I can't go above 15 Mbps. I've tried disabling my wireless cards so that my PC is 'forced' to use the ethernet connection but no go. Will post back when I find a fix.

The reason I connected the Comcast directly to my main computer was because my kids' computer is too far away from my wireless router to receive a signal. I thought that I'd use the powerline network to move the wireless router closer to the kids' computer. That actually worked, as I have full signal strength, however no internet. I think my problem lies in getting my main computer to actually implement ICS and relay the internet through the powerline network and to the wireless router. Perhaps it is only meant to share the internet with ONE other computer, and not an entire network. Just a thought, as I'm truly stumped. Anyone who knows a lot about setting IP addresses might be able to help. I had a thought about how the powerline adapter and the wireless router are getting and possibly assigning IP addresses to the other computers, tv, and blu ray player, or the fact that this process is not happening. I'm still researching through other internet sources, but if anyone has ideas, please post them.

If you coudl help me ou and tell me how far your childrens computers are I can help you too

I have a house and everything in my house is pretty much static IP except for my mini laptop but that leaves the house, i can't have it on a static

I acually also have hard wired everything....

Which i would really consider doing with your kids computers or at least running one hard wire over to a central location towards your childrens computers and just install an Access Point....

If youw ant a more solid connection you could aways just run hard wire and then use a switch...to go to each computer.

Another thing to consider is an Extender.. Linksys...has them
Linksys by Cisco Wireless-G Range Expander WRE54G

the only problem with these is that the range extenders cuts the wirelss in half...

yeah i would defently consider the powerline too...
just let me know which power line adapters you have..

all your hard ware and i will make up a diagram for you on how to set up each computer.
