Solved home network testing scripts

Since i set up my home network the other day i been thinking it might be a good idea to test it. Some of the windows settings for the local net are level 5 so its prob a good idea to see what can be accessed. Im guessing i would need to run some sort of a port scan and then try to access via the ip, but im not totally sure on that one.

I would rather not use an internet tool from a third party unless it is highly recommended here on this forum and secure. Meaning that i know that alot of hackers put stuff like would be friendly utilities on the net like that so that people will use them and then guess what, now they have your info.

I do have my own linux server that i use for my website so if there is a suggested script out there that i can upload to my server and then test my home network that way then that would work.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

I assume you're behind a router so it should only show "port forwards" to your linux server if that's the only thing you've opened in the router. Or possibly open ports for UPnP and Remote Management, but I recommend disabling those services in the router.

it passed steves test and i do have my modem set correctly, thanks so much, thats good enough for me

Good, but note that it's more than one test and that the test "All service ports" covers most ports.[FONT=Verdana,Arial,Helvetica,Sans-Serif,MS Sans Serif][/FONT]

thanks, yeah i just noticed my wps light was blinking red and so i went to disable wps after reading about it and i did find a failed connection so looks like someone was trying to use my wps to get in.

allports test was all green - stealth but it failed true stealth

turned on stealth on modem, and also turned off icmp in and out. Low has both icmp selected and so does medium. So i just left it on low and unchecked icmp both in and out.

UPDATE: all passed now

Is your linux server not located in your home behind the same modem/router? If it is in your home too it should show up as an open port in the port test, otherwise no one can access it. But I'm guessing it's probably not in your home

no the linux is at colocation in phoenix that i lease from. Just to be clear its not on this network, its totally seperate. So as long as i have done the tests to secure this network, then im ok. It was an idea to use that linux to test this but now that i have tested this, im ok... thanks

thanks for the reminder guys, not checked with steve's site since making some router changes - all secure now I reset the FTP port I used recently
