Greetings, and thanks for this forum! Please help! I have searched this and onther sites including Microsoft and I am able to find alot of complaints about this but no real documented fixes. The problem: the machine will randomly go dormant. It might stay up for 30 minutes, it may last for 2 days. This usually happens when the machine is idle but it happened once when I was typing something. There is no BSOD, and Ihave had it keep the display on and had it go blaock. Either way there is no one-blink-per-second on the HDD led, CAPS Lock will not toggle nor will mouse or keyboard respond. Only way out is to power off/on. The Event logs are non-descript, the usual Kernal Power #41 error, then there will be one prior to that indicating the "previous shut-down @ (time) was unexpected". Scrolling further you can see some services entering the stopped state but it's usually well before the "unexpected shutdown"

The Machine: Lenovo K330 7727 4fu. Intel i7 2600/3.4 GHz, 8 gb 1333MHz (upped to 16 with Coarsair 2 x 4G), 1 tb, Nvidia GT420/1GB, Intel P67 Express chipset, 280 Watt P/S (yes, only 280W!!!), DVD, 16:1 card reader, 5.1 sound and the other usual acoutriments on a desktop.

Additionally this is the second one of these systems I have tried with the same exact problem! I have gone in and deactivated any and all sleep/hybernate/power-saving options. Initially I had added the extra memory, a D-Link wireless PCI card and a seconf HD. Thinking I was possibly overloading the P/S I removed all of those items and it still froze. I battled that PC for a couple of weeks and finally took it back and got a second one. This time I simply left it as-is and tried it. Same problem with this one. I have tried loading all the Win & updates, although SP1 is not presenting itself with this second system. I have scrubbed it and reloaded with the "rescue disk" several times. After researching here I performed a "Clean Boot" with only the MS services running and it still froze within a few hours. I next tried running in the "cleanboot" configuration in Safe Mode w/Networking and it actually stayed up for over 1 day. Then I followed the directions to search & delete the existing Nvidia drivers and install the latest & greatest for my card. I then re-enabled the "normal" startup in MSconfig, but it froze again. So this morning I am back to "Clean Boot" in Safe Mode, no start-up programs and only MS services running.

Since it froze with Clean Boot/only MS services running, I am now thinking it might be a MS service problem but I am not sure what to do at this point. Very frustrating on such a new PC. Since this is the second machine with identical problem - and of course Lenovo has "never heard of this before" - it has to be something with drivers or hardware. By the way there are no conflicts in device manager either.

Anything anyone can help me with here will be greatly appreciated! I have nothing to post file-wise as there is no memry dumps or error messages and I am not near the machine right now. Thanks in advance, your help is greatly appreciated!

Phat Chance,
I gather this replacement new computer is also under warranty.

A new computer should not be presenting with the problems you have listed - & we volunteers should not be putting at risk the rights,YOU, the consumer has under that warranty...

I strongly suggest that you should seek further advice asap.
Under Warranty terms a duty of care applies.

The issue needs to be ironed out between the Computer Manufacturer, retailer, Microsoft possibly & of course you.
