I just got this RCA home theater system, with no DVD player built in just the receiver. I have 3 HDMI input on the back with 1 HDMI output.

I've hooked up my BD player to HDMI 1 slot, my SAT/CAB box to HDMI 2 slot. and TV out HDMI to my Flat panel TV.

My question is how do I use the TV and cable box with out having to turn on home theater receiver when everything is connected to the receiver. This freaking baffles me.

Unless there are multiple hdmi outputs from the sources, then you cannot. The home theater has now become the switching device.

What you want to do is hook the sources straight to the TV (DVD and Cable Box), and use an audio out from the TV to the home theater. You will likely have a digital audio out from the TV. This will carry the digital audio (as does the hdmi).

Find the corresponding digital audio input on the home theater. Now whatever (digital) source you watch on the tv will send that audio signal to the home theater. Use just the TV and it's internal audio, or use the home theater if you like. A Guy

Thanks dude...kinda figured as much. My old crappy $40 40 watt surround sound system was just audio inputs and could switch source (sound) with just a click of the remote with out having to literally switch component sources. I'll play around with it. This new HDMI home theater system stuff, it's like learning my windows 7 all over again. Pain in the butt but fun.
