Homebuilt crashing

I am being plagued by constant crashes for over 6 months now. I was getting the BSOD, but seemed to have resolved that. (driver issue). Now it totally locks while using WIN media center. Also locks using VLC but only when playing .MKV format.

My sys contans-

GeForce 210
4gig of crucial ddr3
AMDx3 3.0ghz
1tb seagate hd
corsair liquid cooling for processor
1x 120mm fan
2x 80mm fan
LG Blu-Ray
MSI 785 mobo

Does it crash in clean boot mode?
How to troubleshoot a problem by performing a clean boot in Windows Vista or in Windows 7

If no follow instructions

If yes
Does it crash in safe mode?

Your answer will be a big help trying to diagnose.

It does not do it in safe mode or in clean boot. How do I tell what is causing it?

Do a clean boot and then follow the instrucirtons to find the cause
It is all in the clean boot link. Follow the instructrions and you have this thing licked.

Now that i have found the problem, how do i get rid of it. some kind of utility that came with some software.

How did you find it, with Clean boot?

If so, you can
uninstall
or see

if there is new versioin
or
update drivers.

Bottom line you must uninstall or try to update.

After disabling what i thought was the issue. it has returned. i have disabled all of the services. and one by one disabled the startup processes also. still I am plagued by these lockups. Does anyone have any other ideas that i could try?

Does it seem to anyone that this may be a hardware issue? I have disabled all start up services. and uninstalled all programs. I am going to try a component by component stress test next. will post how it goes.

Try in safe mode

tried to boot in safe mode. while it was loading windows files it froze! what does that say? it is a hardware issue, or it is a a widows issue?

Nothing is guaranteed, but problem in safe mode there is a very good chance its hardware.
In safe mode very liitle software is running.

ok, what would b best way to start eliminating components? I have a geforce 210, a ralink wifi card g, a LG blu ray player/burner, and a muti card reader of which i cant recal brand. Which would be the most likley culprit?

We always start with memory as that is the most likely
Download memtest86 and test RAM

Run for 8 passes
If passes try a good stick in each slot for 3 passes
If fails do the same for 8 passes.

I have run the mem test for 12 passes and not a single error. have stressed the cpu for 5 hrs no freezing. removed wifi card and still was freezing. any other ideas?
