Solved Homegroup died after router upgrade

Right. But the home group setup wizard should set the selected folders as shared on the home group. For some reason mine didn't. Whether thats a new glitch in windows or whatever the reason the changing out of the routers shouldn't have affected those folders sharing setup. Previous to the router swap they were automatically shared by the home group setup wizard. That's what I don't understand. Why did I have to manually go back in and set those folders to be shared over the home group in the advanced sharing options when before swapping routers the setup wizard did that for you? Only thing I can think of is a ms update screwed it up as nothing else was changed other than a piece of hardware.

Because as far as Windows is concerend you completely changed the network when you installed a new router which resets the sharing permissions for the Homegroup as a safty precaution.

It's a good network with automatic features to prevent people from getting into your folders.

Resetting the sharing permissions after the router change was the first thing that should have been done, it's standard procedure for a major network change like installing a new router.

Ah okay I got it now. Just curious why the wizard didn't reset the sharing when I did the tips in this thread to delete and recreate the home group. Anyway its working now. Thanks for the help!
