homegroup issues,

ok guys,

ive done some searching both here and google and cant seem to find what i need. i have 3 pc's all on windows 7, one home prem, and 2 ult. one ult and the home prem are dule core laptops (only home prem are 64 bit) rest 32 bit.

laptop 1 is 64 bit intel on wireless (connects to all homegroups fine)

laptop 2 32 bit 7 ult on wireless (connects to all homegroups fine)

desktop 32 bit 7 ult wired (doesnt connect at all, first said ipv6 was disabled, got that done i think, and now it just says, windows can't connect to homegroup.)

the 2 laptops connect just fine..but im having issues with the wired desktop




ive taken zone alarm off, as well as avg. also i have tryed starting a homegroupe from the desktop, it seems to start them just fine. and all pc's can see the homegroup, but none can join. it just says "windows can't start homegroup" and thats it...


any ideas?

What does event viewer say? Type eventvwr in search>go to the windows log>apllication tab. Look for critical errors (they have red in the left hand column) that refer to the problem. when you find them note the event ID and source code and let us know what they are

On the problem machine do this.
1. Click Start. Search for run and press enter. In the field, type regedit and press OK.

2. In the registry, navigate to the following key.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE
\SYSTEM
\CurrentControlSet
\Services
\Tcpip6
\Parameters

3. In the right pane, right-click on “DisabledComponents” and select modify. In the value data field, type “0″ (without quotations) and press OK. If the value was set to ``FF``, it was turned off.
4. Reboot your computer and it should work. It did for me.

If that doesn't fix the problem try this.

Go to C:\Windows\ServiceProfiles\LocalService\AppData\Roaming\PeerNetworking and delete all of the files in this folder. Now restart the computer.

Go to Services again and you should be able to start 'Peer Networking Grouping' and 'Peer Name Resolution Protocol'. Restart the computer again.

When you log on this time, check the event log again, to ensure no errors concerning the two services are present and also check Services to ensure the two services concerned are running.

You should now have full functionality restored to your homegroup.
