Solved Homegroup permissions problem

My Homegroup was working perfectly between my PC and laptop, and then without knowingly changing anything the Homegroup libraries just stopped appearing.

I left the Homegroup on both computers, restarted them and created and joined a new Homegroup. From my PC, it all works perfectly, but from my laptop, the folders appear but I'm not able to open them because it says I don't have permission. At first it did ask for a user id and password (on the laptop) for my PC, but I do not use a password on my PC so that login failed. Since then it hasn't asked again for the user ID and password, just tells me I don't have permission.

The files are shared with the Homegroup (read/write) on the PC.
Passwood protected sharing is turned off on both laptop and PC. Also when I click the various libraries to be shared on my PC in the Homegroup settings box (Photos/Videos/Documents etc...) and press Save, the screen refreshes with the ticks removed.

What am I missing?

Thanks for any help

Thanks for the reply.

I'd already performed everything from those tutotials, but please remember that the Homegroup was working fine up until quite recently, and I havn't changed any permission settings in the meantime.

I've just fixed the problem, although as far as I can tell, the solution isn't in any of the sites linked to from this thread.

All I did was to set the same password on the PC and the laptop, I logged out , then back in again, and it all just burst into life!!

Thanks to people who responded.

Cheers,
Bernie

I take it you are talking about the actual Homegroup Password? http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/43963-homegroup-password-view-print.html

If so it is mentioned in Step 8 in the WSF tutorial I posted in post #4. Don't forget that every time you create a new homegroup it will create a new homegroup password, which must be used for all computers in the homegroup.

Anyway, pleased to see you're up and running and thanks for the update.

No, I'm talking about the password used to initially log into Windows!

The same account user name is used for both laptop and PC, but although I use a password on my laptop (because it goes out of my house sometimes), on my PC I did not have a password set. Once I added a Windows login password on my PC, it all started working.

That makes sense.

Obviously, your password-protected laptop was denying access to what it saw was an unprotected computer, although I'm not sure how.

Whatever the the reason, your problem is resolved and that's all that matters. :)
