Hello. I've recently set up a HomeGroup for my computers to easily share my media files over many computers, especially between my desktop computer and my Sony Vaio (since it's missing a DVD-player and I often bring it with me when traveling to watch movies.
However, when I send files through the HomeGroup (copy them from the shared libraries off my other computer and puts them in the local libraries instead, to be able to use them when the computers are not connected) I found that all the files ends up Read-only, which is not a problem in itself, but since I prefer to add subtitles (in VLC) it seems like it is a problem.
I noticed that all the videos uses the same subtitle, even though I've not chosen it for that particular video, and when I try to change it adds the new subtitle in the list and "activates" it, but nothing changes. It's still the same one in the video. I know this may be something bad with VLC, but since it works fine when the files are not read-only I'd prefer to fix that instead of using another program.
Also, I've tried just unchecking the boxes in properties, but every time I close the properties window, it gets re-checked. I've now got the same problem on my desktop computer with the files I've previously shared, even though I've removed them from the library list.
Help would be much appreciated, since this read-only thing has infested my whole movie collection on both of my computers, and I really don't want to rip all those movies back onto my computer.
EDIT: I hope this is the right place to post it, but since it is a problem caused by the homegroup I thought this would be a suitable place. If not, feel free to move the thread. Also, I'm not sure if there is any real difference between read-only and write protection, if there is, feel free to edit that too.
