Homegroup sharing problems

I have two stubborn networking problems:

Problem 1: On my Desktop-PC, on the Homegroup network, I cannot share many folders of the Documents library.
Here is the sequence of events: (1) right-click on the folder to be shared, (2) select "Share with", (3) select"Homegroup Read/Write", (4) get message "Your folder can't be shared." Properties of folder show that it is shared. Windows Explorer does not show sharing in its status bar. The other PC in the Hmegroup does not see the folder. This problem occurs for most of the folders in the Documents library.

Problem 2: On my Notebook-PC, of the Homegroup network, the folders in the "Documents" library of the Desktop-PC are not visible.

Here is the sequence of events: (1) view Windows Explorer. (2) in "homegroup (Desktop-PC)" area of screen, click on "Documents" library, (3) get message - "Documents is empty. No folders have been included in this libary." This is false. In the "Network" portion of the Explorer screen on the Notebook-PC, the Desktop-PC folders that actually have been shared show.

Any help would be appreciated.

Here are the configurations:

Desktop PC:
32-bit Windows 7 Home Premium
Home-type network
Access-type: Internet
Home Group: joined
Connections: LAN
Homegroup settings: Share Documents, Pictures, and Music
Network discovery: Off, it will not stay On
File and printer sharing: On
Public folder sharing: On
Encryption: 40- or 56-bit
Password-protected sharing: Off
Allow Windows to manage connections: On

Notebook PC:

Problem resolved. Root cause was that network discovery property coul;d not be turned ON.

I systematically checked to ensure the following were correctly set:

  • DNS Client service started and on automatic
  • SSDP Discovery service started and on automatic
  • UPnP Device Host service started and on automatic
  • Function Discovery Resource Publication service started and on automatic
I also confirmed that IP version 6 was enabled.

One or more of these actions corrected the flaw.:D
