Homegroups - "windows cannot access" 0x80070035

There are three W7 64 bit machines on our homegroup. Two work fine together and both of them can access the material on the problem 3rd machine as well as each other. However the third machine cannot access the material on either of the other two even though their icons and folders show under "Homegroup" on the problem 3rd machine. I have followed instructions Ultimate Troubleshooting Guide for Windows 7 HomeGroup Connection Issues and elsewhere on both the problem 3rd machine and one of the other two. No change. I have tried with the problem machine hard wired to the network and connected via wi-fi. Makes no difference. Clicking, in Homegroup on the 3rd machine on a shared folder on either of the other two machines gets the message "Windows cannot access", code as above, it also says "Network Path Not Found" and then offers a diagnosis routine which fails to identify the problem and then has you going round in circles.
The problem machine is running Home Premium as is one of the OK machines, the other is running Ultimate. All three are running AVG Internet Security 2012 which I have also disabled on the problem and ok machines separately and simultaneoulsy - it made no difference.

I am now stumped, having wasted half a day trying to figure it out. Any help appreciated.

Can you please post a screen shot of the ipconfig/all from the problem machine?

Could it be because I have two routers, one is to provide a WEP wireless network (a K-Corp, whoever they were, KLG-575) - used by my sons non-WPA games consoles. This sits after the cable modem. Then I have virginmedia's D-Link DIR-615 router which is WPA compliant and is my main network. They are in that order (cable modem, WEP router, WPA router) as I believe this means that a hack of my WEP network would still leave the WPA one secure.

The tunnel adaptors are used for more than that and often times having or acquiring too many of them will cause connection problems exactly as you are describing.

You would be far better served going from your modem directly to your main routers WAN port, and only use the second router if it has an "access point" mode, or at the very least with DHCP disabled though it may require other adjustments if there isn't an A/P mode.

The second router with the access point mode would simply plug into one of your main routers LAN ports or a LAN port on a standard switch. You don't want to piggy back routers like you are doing now as it usually ends up causing problems, even if you think the settings are correct it's just not meant to be.

The arrangement I have has worked fine for a couple of years now and so if it is not causing the current problem I would be happy to continue with it. The WEP router is connected to a LAN port from the router and set up as an A/P, this would handle the WEP wireless connections only because it's set up with it's own SSID and password.

The main router would be the one handling the DHCP IP assignments, plus it's own wireless connection and most of the other stuff.

This is how most normal networks are set up and is usually the best way to add a wireless A/P in most cases.

I'd have to place the blame on AVG at this point. Uninstalling is often times the only way to be sure.

ok. I'll try that. Do you mean on the 3rd machine only?

I uninstalled AVG from the problem and one of the other machines. I left and rejoined the Homegroup on both machines and checked and fiddled about with the sharing settings on both. Same behavior. Two machines can access each others and the problem machines data, problem machine shows the other machines in it's homegroup but cannot access anything.

I have re-installed AVG on both machines.

What now?

Have you tried leaving the Homegroup on all machines then recreating and rejoining the Homegroup again?

I left the Homegroup on each machine in turn and then rebooted each machine. I then created a new Homegroup from the "problem machine". No luck I'm afraid, I have exactly the same situation still. The two OK machines can access each other and the problem machine, the problem machine only sees itself (although Icons for the other machines appear under its Homegroup icon).

I'v looked at many of the other threads on this forum concerning this, or a similar problem with error code 0x80070035. I've looked into and tried one or two other ideas I've found too. None has worked yet. It's not encouraging that most of the threads about this seem to peter out rather than reach a happy ending. Let mine be different.

Any more ideas?
