Hi guys, I have a small nas set up for media sharing between 3 Windows machines & so far Its been working fine for its intended use.

Would setting up or enabling "homegroups" between these systems give me any other benefits? Forgive me if its a stupid question, Im still trying to learn as much as I can with the OS and have never really tinkered and grasped the homegroups function.

That is actually a good question.

Homegroup won't help directly with the NAS but if you wanted more selective user sharing then setting up a Homegroup can really help.

As it is with the Homegroup, any shared files are accessable to everyone in the Homegroup. This is fine for some things but if you wanted to keep certain machines or users from accessing all shared folders then leaving those machines out of the Homegroup would give you more options for selective sharing.

I see what you're saying. Since I dont foresee any household users that Id restrict with shared folders I guess it doesnt really matter in this situation.

thanks
