Solved Horrible problem D:

Hello people,

I have a little problem, I thought that probably you will be able to help me.

I've just bought a new RAM memory:

Kingston KVR16N11S6/2

2GB PC3-12800 CL11 240-Pin UDIMM

So, it would be 2 DDR3 GB.

My motherboard: P5G41T-M LX3

It supposedly is able to use this RAM with no problem.

My old RAM clocks 1333MHz (I just say it because the difference maybe provoques the problem)

The Problem is that when I connect it, I put it in the slot, the same way you'd put any other ram, (I am impaired but not THAT impaired), well it won't be recognized.

These are the things I've tried:

First off, I checked the slot where I put the New ram with the old ram, the old ram was recognized, so the slot wasn't ****ed up.

Then I went to bios and I don't know if I either downclocked, or overclocked, I just went to some settings that had to do with ram and changed from <auto> to <1066> MHz, exit applying changes, the computer restarts, **** it no change, still won't recognize my new ram.

Then I saw a solution on another website, it said to take out the motherboard's battery, turn on the computer, turn it off, put the battery back on, and see, it didn't help.

Then I updated the BIOS since I read in some website that it could be the problem, I downloaded a ROM from ASUS webpage,

Went to BIOS and with the FLASHZ 2 thingy whatever upgraded it.

Then I tried changing the clock thing from <auto> to <1066> or even <856> (where it wouldn't even let me startup the computer), and before that I let it restart with <auto> just so maybe if the updating was of ANY use, it might have worked automatically (don't worry, it didn't).

Then I got tired and went to sleep since none of it worked...

Welp, could you guys help me? If so thank you a lot in advance, I am trully in the dark here..

According to Crucial's configurator, that motherboard takes PC3-12800, which is 1600 mhz.

You say your "old RAM" is DDR3-1333? I think that is PC3-10600.

You bought the PC new with DDR3-1333 installed?

According to your motherboard specs it doesn't support PC3-12800 1600mhz RAM so you should take the new one to where you bought it and get a matching one to your old one then it will work. Also make sure after you power the computer down to disconnect the power cable from it and press the on button for 30 seconds or so to remove any remaining charge from the system and earth yourself while adding the RAM

Well yes, I bought it and it had, well still has, this KVR1333D3S8N9/2G which is a DDR3 1333 that gives me 2GB of RAM, it's the one I am using right now, since the other one is not being recognized.

Shimshom may be right.

You need to go to Asus website and see what Asus says about RAM requirements for that board.

The Crucial configurator is normally correct and says 12800 is OK, but that might be incorrect in this case.

What made you think that 12800 was OK?

I am taking a Digital Logic course on college so I got all that down!, but thanks a big lot for your answer, you just prevented me from wasting any more time, I have another pc here with me, which is a bit newer, so I¡ll try it on that one and let you people know if it works. If it does I'll just come by and let you know and close the thread.

Oh one last question, how do I do to get a matching one? Could you help me? I thought the first one I had it all down the good way but its seems not, do I ask for a lower clock frequency (MHz)?

Either use HWInfo Download HWiNFO and download the one for your OS or remove the RAM module from it's slot and look at the sticker on it which will give you the info you need. Before trying to use the 1600 ram on another computer look online for the motherboard specs to make sure it can use it

I put the new ram on the new computer, and took a 2GB ram (exactly the same as the "old one" i'm referring in the original post) from that other computer and put it in this one and it worked! So now I have both pc's with 4gb ram, it was indeed that this old crap wasn't able to use the new ram.
