I don't know why but when I choose Hotmail from the MSN homepage the mail opens but I can't read any mail. Then I keep getting a script error.

I tried a restore but that didn't work.

Any ideas appreciated

Thanks

I don't think you can disable it; but you can "sign-in to Messenger" and "Sign-out of Messenger" from the Hotmail website by hovering over the black triangle under your name in the upper right corner, revealing a pop up menu showing the Messenger sign-in choice you are not currently using. The script problem you mentioned may have more to do with your browser. If you're using IE, you can try a reset: Tools/Internet Options/Advanced/Reset.

I went to the microsoft hotmail forum and discovered that from 20-26 Mar there were/are problems with the exact same symtoms in the states of Pa. and NJ. I live in Pa.

The solution provided is to

1 Go to hotmail account

2. Go to the bottom of the page and select " activate HTTPS "

3 Select activate

I did this and now I can access hotmail.

I hope it is a permanent solution !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Don't forget, if you use HTTPS with Hotmail, you can't use Windows Live Mail:

"Some connections to Hotmail won’t be available if you turn on HTTPS, including:
  • Outlook Hotmail Connector
  • Windows Live Mail
  • The Windows Live application for Windows Mobile (version 6.5 and earlier) and Symbian"
Hotmail security improves with full-session HTTPS encryption

Also, not sure what you meant by "reset"...I was just pointing out how to log out of Messenger on the Hotmail website.

My Hotmail account is https. If accessed in WLM 2009 it gives no problem.

It's interesting that the warning, "Important Note", is still on the Hotmail website but no longer mentions WLM for PCs as being affected:

Apparently HTTPS for WLM is now ok on the PC application, WLM, but may still be a problem with Windows Mobile and Nokia phones (see previous post).

I'm not in two places at once.

Buddy

I think there are so many quirkies going on now at MSN you may expect anything to happen

With the soon to be released W8 I suspect that their R & D are testing all servers, networks, etc.
