Got an old 5-7 year old laptop out... how bad is it?

It's a single core 1.3GHz Intel Celeron M processor, 494MB RAM, 64 MB Intel graphics chip controller thing...

I wish I could tell what MHZ Ram, what L1/L2 cache it has, etc.. :O

Hehehe wonder how win 7 would like this thing, XP isn't even diggin it!

low ram, but will propably run windows 7, but will be probably slow. I tried windows 7 on 512MB RAM laptops and desktops, it definantly runs but definantly slow. for example if I want to do a virus scan with avira, it means I cannot do anything else at the same time, well technically I can but I have to wait very long for things to respond it feels like it takes forever. if your only going to use it to surf the web and open a few word files you can probably get away with it, but if you want to do something heavy like play games or do video editing or encoding then forget it!

The ram is whats going to hurt you, I have tried to install win7 on machines under 512 meg of ram and get an error message before the installer starts up fully. You can give it a try and see what happens but it will be slow to use just like what akramh said.

Add memory to make 2GB, then everything would be quite fine. Switching to a better Hard Drive would help much too.

Its gonna be slow but it has been done by even slower machines. One user here mcblzr has a pentiun II running with windows. But it will be slow

It would run fine.
Celeron M is fine.
Memory is fine.
Although You need to certainly tweak some services down, but overall you will have good experience.

Memory consuption will be low because of low DWM and generic drivers, which will run fine and extra stable, not adding much to memory.

I'm running W7 on an old Dell Optrex G240.
1gb Ram and [email protected]

Runs fine as long as you don't try to multitask it.
CPU is at 17-20% and ram is at 35% usage with 32 processes running.

I would say do it, then change everything to optimized for performance. I have an old laptop and w7 runs better than XP SP3.

It should run fine

It will have some lag because of the RAM but if you don't push it too hard then it wont fall over LOL

You will however not be able to utilize Aero as you need a minimum of 128MB video ram but that should be of no concern
