Solved How can I add MS Access?

I was sent a .mdb file that I can not open it because I do not own a copy of Access. I do own MS Office Home & Business 2010 and would like to purchase just Access 2010. Unless I am missing it, I don't see where it is available for download on MS's webpage, just Office 365, which I do not want. Is there an upgrade from Office H & B to 2010 Professional like there is with Windows? Thanks

you may find it quite difficult to find a legitimate Access program to download as now I believe Microsoft are only shipping 365 versions. Even in the 365 options access is only included in the most expensive business options

There is one option that may allow you to gain access to the data in the file you have

Microsoft supply a runtime version of Access that allows those without a copy of the full program to run the database itself but not modify anything

You may find that one of the Office clones [Open office type suites] may allow some more access but I cannot be sure

Thanks for the link. I installed it and it opens a window titled microsoft access runtime 2010 and installs some sort of configuration files and then directs me to input my product key for H&B 2010, but I can't see the file. I followed the instructions of opening another office program, rebooted and still no luck. I know this may be dicey, but I found a copy of access on ebay. Thoughts on going this route?

Ebay software is usually about 95%+ counterfeit, more so with things like office

The product key should be in the documentation that came with your copy of Office H&B - it may also be in the settings area of any of the office apps look for an Account or about option

Open Office should be able to open the Access file [they call it Database however].

The last time I used Open Office for their Database program it required the installation of Java on my computer.

I thought everyone knew that OpenOffice is now called LibreOffice? Their equivalent of Access (called Base) may well be able to read .mdb files.

.mdb files can also be Imported by MS Excel, but you would have to save the any changes as a Spreadsheet.

Thanks for all the suggestions. I imported into excel and I can view the file. Installed open office and it is readable in Base.
