This is my 1st post in the forums, I have no profile info filled out, I'm not looking to waste anyones time but do have a question to ask, prior to my asking I searched and found nothing, anyway I'm looking for a way to enlarge the size of the thumbnail preview in Windows 7 I know that there was a registry mod for windows XP that would allow you to change the overall size of thumbnail I'm looking for something that will allow me to do that in windows 7

I am aware that Windows & has a slider bar that will allow you to change from a detail view to a extra large view however I find all are to small for my use, here is my situation.

I have a wireless HTPC setup @ use a 50" HDTV as the only monitor, I use a screen resolution of 1804 X 1004 and a DPI scale of 148% as this is the only settings that will allow me to read text, navigate windows and use all installed programs as needed, the problem I have is the preview size of all thumbnails is entirely to small.

I would like to change the default size of all of thumbnails to a larger size, I know there was a registry mod for XP that would allow you to change the size of the thumbnail I need something similar for Windows 7 the problem I have is when using windows explorer a small icon view gives me exactly 100 thumbnails all are so frikking small I can't begin to tell what the thumbnail represents, with using a medium view I have 88 thumbnails still all to small to view, the only setting I can use that even starts to give me a preview that is larger enough to tell what it represents is a extra large view.

In extra large icon view I have 24 thumbnails displayed on the 50" screen I would like to re size the thumbnails so that I have only 9 or 12 thumbnails shown, any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

I have similar problem with a secondary monitor. I never thought of trying to enlarge the thumbnails to an even larger size. I just pinned this program to my taskbar and use it frequently: Virtual Magnifying Glass 3.5

I have tried this registry mod in the past and found it did not work asides from not working the registry path given in the link that it says to modify is not a path that exist in my windows 7 registry.

the link says to use... navigate to HKEY_CURRENT_USER Softwares –> Microsoft –> Windows –> Explorer it then says to create dword ThumbnailSize and assign it a value of 32 to 256

I don't have this path above if I create it and add the dword as described the size of the thumbnails did not change regardless of the value assigned I have went as far as deleting the path given above and creating a dword value in a similar path that exist in windows 7 registry but still no change in the size of thumbnails, still looking for a resolution

Welcome to Windows Seven Forums.

If you're happy to edit the system registry you can change thumbnail sizes there:

Are you using 32-bit Windows or 64-bit?

It would appear you need to use DWORD for the 32-bit version and DWORDLONG fror the 64-bit version.

I have a 32 bit OS, I created a DWORD value on the right named it ThumbnailSize then changed the decimal value to 32 then later to 256 and there was no change in the size of the thumbnails.

Are you using 32-bit Windows or 64-bit?

It would appear you need to use DWORD for the 32-bit version and DWORDLONG fror the 64-bit version.
