How can I check if Java is installed?

Hi everyone. I recently put together a Windows 7 Professional machine (running the RTM). After installing all of my software and the like I wanted to be sure that Java WAS NOT installed. For various reasons, mostly security and keeping resources clear, I don't want Java on this system.

Is there a way to check, and verify that the programs I've installed (web browser, some games, etc) haven't installed Java as well? I fear some of them may have slipped a Java installation in under my nose, but I don't know how to verify Java's presence. Web-based applications don't find it, but I want to be sure. Thanks!

First I would look at the program list in the control pannel then i would go into my computer and look at the Program Folder x86 and see if Java is located?
And what security reasons are you speaking of? As long as you get the lastest pack you will be safer then an old one or just run a firewall and av.

If it is installed, it would show up in the control panel.

Thanks, guys. I don't see it in the control panel, Program Files (x86) folder, or the program list.

The reason I don't want it installed security wise is that it's a common attack vector. Since I don't do anything on this system that actually requires Java, I see little reason to keep it installed and up to date. Even if I do, there are still day 0 attacks and social engineering techniques that I may fall victim to. If I don't need it, I may as well not open up a potential vulnerability. Plus, this way I can trim the number of running processes, and keep things on my system lean.

Yub. Programs are like women. They can do good things for you. But the more you have, the more problems you face. Get rid of them if you dont need them.

Verify Java Version
