How can I detect what process is using a particular CPU core?

I'm seeing significant core 3 usage, circa 70-90%, but overall cpu usage is only 13% , so not impacting on system performance.

Nonetheless, such activity (these days !) is a cause for concern, when it runs for 30 mins plus, so how can I tell what's using that core ?

Well I am justguessing that it might be concern over one of the cores on that chip which I wanted to know what the CPU is but I can see what you mean

It's a Toshiba P870 Intel i7 quad core with Win 7 Home Premium & 16GB RAM.

Over the past few days I seem to have found the problem by fixing another.

Windows updates were stuck at 0% (a very common problem it seems...) and subsequent playing with the SystemDistribution folder has fixed it (but I didn't delete the contents as per typical web recommendation as that destroys the update history and deselected updates)
I'd say Windows update was TRYING to get updates but due to failed previous attempts it was pulling some core 3 time as it was 'stuck in a bind' of some sort. Windows bug !
Core 3 is now back to normal !


My concern stemmed from such prolonged core activity being very unusual on my system.
CPU normally sits at 3-4% even with all the stuff I run.
I was thinking 'nasty infection happening' but as usual it wasn't !

No probs but I would still keep half an eye on the core all the same.



Just in case you are interested this might be of use to you it is my bible when setting up or fixing machines and if you don't mind losing some of the "bling" like transparency well worth following some of the tips .

I've already done a fair few of them already and in some cases done the exact opposite


Cores are running at their usual low level now so I'm happy.
