How can I Recover the 20gb that i allocated for ubuntu linux

Hello..I used to have a windows 7 os in my desktop..then i kept ubuntu linux in dual boot mode by providing 20gb space of E drive..BUt for few days i have problems with windows7 showing a black screen after logging in..so I formatted my desktop with windows7cd..Now i have windows7 working well..But ubuntu linux is lost and 20gb that i have allocated before for ubuntu is not recovered..Please help me to recover that 20gb of my Edrive...

Just right-click on the E drive in the disk manager and select 'delete'. Then right-click on D and select 'extend'. that should do it.

Or do you want to make ubuntu working again?

There seem to be 5 Primary partitions listed in that screenshot.

If it was my HDD, I'd backup all of my important data and start again from scratch (i.e. delete everything, repartition and reinstall).

You say that "Linux is lost" -- but it is not. All you did was overwrite the GRUB code in the MBR so it does not boot anymore.

If you go to the Ubuntu forums with this question, they can provide you links to Boot-Repair, which should be able to restore the ability to boot Ubuntu.

I don't think he has a problem because the 2GB and 18GB partitions are not NTFS partitions. They are in Linux format.

Insert your Ubuntu Live CD

Install - Boot-Repair

Run & Choose 'Recomended Repair'

Done.

The Grub can be easily repaired. But I think Kaktussoft was asking the right question. That should be answered first.

the linux bootloader has been altered by the new reinstalling of windows7. but everything in the linux partition remains intact. you can download the iso of boot repair disk from linux website (around 500mb), burn it to cd and just run it on startup to do the boot repair.

I don't think he has a problem because the 2GB and 18GB partitions are not NTFS partitions. They are in Linux format.

I use GParted from a Live Linux CD to pre-partition my HDDs.
It won't allow me to create more than 4 Primary partitions (mix of NTFS and EXT4) using the standard MBR setup.

Does GPT allow for an unlimited number of Primary partitions?

• Maximum of 4 primary partitions
• If an EXTENDED partition exists ... only 3 primary partitions can be on disk
• EXTENDED partition is a container of many LOGICAL partitions.

Thanks for that link (I've actually read that before).

It seems like it is basically useless, unless you run Linux, OS X, a Windows server or have UEFI.

Does anyone here actually use GPT?
