Hi mysticstarzz77

My name is Mohammed from DELL social media outreach team

In response to your recent query go to the device manager and right click on the DVD/CD ROM drive and check whether you are getting an option to enable the drivers if you aren’t getting that option check whether it gives you an option to uninstall if it does then go ahead and uninstall the drivers then reboot the computer. After rebooting go to the device manager and check whether it has been enabled.

Thanks & regards

Seek assistance from whoever owns the PC and has passworded the BIOS.

Your post sounds like someone trying to circumvent a locked-down PC.

I'd find out if I could get into the BIOS, for my own knowledge, but it shouldn't be locked. As for the CD/DVD, you don't need them to install Windows 7. We have guides on making bootable USB flash drives. I don't know if anyone who still uses discs for their installs/repairs. As for your data, if it's important, it should be backed up. If it isn't backed up, get yourself an external drive and do that now.

If it's asking for a password, I would go back to the person you bought it from and demand it right away.

We should give you the benefit of the doubt, I suppose.

If you have a desktop system, you could trying clearing your CMOS. That's also know as resetting the RTC (real time clock). I believe that usually eliminates the BIOS password (It doesn't usually work on notebooks, as an anti-theft measure.)

Do you know the make and model of your PC? Posting that might enable us to help you find a downloadable manual for the PC, or to find where the CMOS jumper is. (Most desktops have a clear CMOS jumper, although you can also do it by disconnecting the power, and temporarily removing the CMOS backup battery. That's usually a type 2032 disk-shaped cell.)

then I am really confused. It won't let me rollback the driver. It wont let me do a system restore as it was disabled. I tried uninstalling the device and reinstalling it and it still comes up with the exclaimation mark. I try to go into regit (bad spelling) and it wont let me says its blocked. I really do not want to have to format and lose everything

We've been discussing the BIOS. If you are talking about the OS, you should have done a clean install once you got the system, to ensure nothing was left behind, that it was set up the way you wanted, and that no malware or other "spying" software was left on it.
