How can I use my hotmail a/c when I'm in another country?

My account is set up in Australia. Just now I've come to Ireland and will be here for a while. I find my normal pop3 access to my hotmail a/c is not working (and accessing via the website is also affected). Have tried extensively to find Microsoft help but no luck there.

Can any tell me what I need to do to either:

- reset me hotmail a/c so it works here in Ireland, or
- contact help from Microsoft Outlook service?

This is surely a common situation with people traveling the globe so there must be a way to deal with it.

I wouldn`t use any mail program associated with windows when there are so many others.
Yahoo, gmail, etc

my hotmail a/c is old and so that address is embedded in many services with which I wish to maintain contact. It would be
difficult just now to change this in all relevant sites ... hence my need to continue with using hotmail (which until now has been for a long time a reliable service). I'll follow up on the page you've linked above,

No luck with the above link ... mostly referred to sites with either gripes or user issues eg log in etc.

What sort of problem are you having using the webmail interface?
Note: I don't have a hotmail account, I have an outlook webmail only, account.

The problem plodr is that I can no longer receive mail on my pop3 server (I prefer mail deliver to thunderbird). For a period the webmail access was also blocked but has now cleared. (This would be what you use ... me too the old hotmail addresses like mine are in with Outlook).

The Alert states:

Sending of password did not succeed. Mail server pop-mail.outlook.com responded: Authentication failure: unknown user name or bad password. [Error="ProxyNotAuthenticated" AuthResult=0 Proxy=HK2PR0199MB0594.apcprd01.prod.exchangelabs.com:1995:SSL]

I really want to save this a/c as it's the original so has been my official email address with institutions etc for decades.

Have you setup two step verification in hotmail? If you are able to get onto the MS settings page, find the setting for two step verification and if it is on, turn it off. Then try Thunderbird again. About two-step verification - Microsoft Help

Also in your hotmail webmail settings, make sure POP3 has not been disabled. If it has, turn it back on.

it appears that indeed pop3 was turned off in webmail settings.
I have tested the a/c and it is now receiving.
Can't access two step yet as I've changed my contact details and now await the mandatory period.
