How to change administrator policies for installation on Win7 Home P

Hey Guys,

I have searched high and low for this and found nothing that works for Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

When I try to install some software (.msi) I get the message - "The system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation"

People have found fixes by changing local security policy settings or changing the UAC settings, but none of these work for Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit.

Just to confirm, I have full administrator privileges!

Is there anyone that can fix this?!

Many regulars on this board won't even answer posts if the System Specs aren't filled in. It just wastes too much time asking if the poster has this or that or what brand PC it is.

Try Quick Links button, Edit your Profile, then System Specs tab.

Have seen this thread, problem is that this doesn't work for Home Premium because it doesn't come with the local security policy.

Need a way of fixing it for windows home premium, there are so many people asking for a genius to fix this!

It doesn't come with the policy editor doodad. But that just sets things in the registry. Did you try the fix at the bottom?

Browse the registry to HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer
Create: DisableMSI Type: REG_DWORD value = 0 (0 should allow you to install it was originally 1)
Browse to HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\Installer\Products\
Search the list for the product that is causing the error.. delete the folder in the products folder… this may also correct your error.

It's a good idea to create a restore point or use ERUNT to back up your registry before editing.

To edit the registry go into Windows search and type "regedit" without the quotes. Back it up first though.

I hadn't seen this possible fix.

Any chance you could talk me through creating it? - I have created a restore point and under HKLM\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Installer it has the key (Default) REG_SZ (value not set) .... by creating "DisableMSI Type: REG_DWORD value = 0 (0 should allow you to install it was originally 1)" is this done by editing that default value or creating a new key? or new string/binary value?

It doesn't seem to have any affect at all and i can't find the product folder as it is a just an installer file

What program is it? Is it a download? If you bought it someplace try to get support from them. You can't be the only person having trouble with installation. Most commercial software sites have their own forum to provide free support. Check the web page for a Support button.
