How come no warning message from win security sw?

I have been using win 7 since almost a year.
Have not received a single warning from firewall or defender .

I used to get repeatedly messages from Zonealarm or other firewall
software I used.
Almost everyday we are busy updating win defender definitions,but
no sign that it detects anything.
Scanning with malware software though shows various items.

There is a difference in detection between the programs you mentioned. For example, Windows Defender is an anti-spyware software program, not anti-malware. See https://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/defender/default.mspx . As to the firewall differences, if you are using the default settings in Windows Firewall, you won't get the same prompts you did from ZoneAlarm for allowing Internet access. Although it has been a long time since I used ZA, as I recall, it was essentially necessary to approve Internet access for everything, including the browser, antivirus & anti-malware software, etc.

What are you using as your Anti-Virus program? Windows Defender is not an anti-virus or anti-malware scanner, as Corrine pointed out to you.
