SOLVED!!! (read thread for solution if interested)

For whatever reason I do not have a login screen to choose my user icon and enter a password to then proceed to the Windows 7 GUI. When I cold boot my PC, my system just boots up Windows. That is not a good thing for security. I can not figure out how to get back a login screen during a cold boot. Any help appreciated. Windows 7 Ultimate 64-bit service pack 1.

SOLVED!
Found the solution!!!
open a command terminal (Start Menu-> cmd)
type this then press [Enter]: control userpasswords2
A pop up GUI interface appears with a checkbox to check to enable requiring users to enter a password. I did that, clicked apply, rebooted my computer and indeed now I must choose a user and then enter the appropriate password to boot into the Windows 7 GUI system!
:)

I am the only user on my PC and do not have a password. It just goes to the Win 7 screen. If you add a password to your account, you should get a logon screen. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/288-password-create-user-account.html

Hmm. I actually do already have a Guest user account as well as another named user account (standard account). So 3 users-- me (Admin), another user (standard), and a Guest user account. Still, a cold boot just boots me into my admin account without any password entry, without even having a chance to choose a different user account. I find that odd and unacceptable on the part of Windows 7. There must be a way to get back my login. I do have a password, just that I am not asked for it during a cold boot, only after waking from a suspend. Gotta be a way to make Windows 7 ask for a password during a cold boot, i mean that is a major security flaw not to have that!

Hello John,

In addition, double check to make sure that you have the Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer box checked in netplwiz.

http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/377-log-automatically-startup.html

Hope this helps, :)
Shawn

yup that was what was needed. I am not sure what netplwiz is but i googled and found an easy way by opening up a command terminal and typing control userpasswords2 then checking that box for Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer
