How do i clean install drivers?

I know this has been asked to DEATH but 7 forums search doesn't seem to be working.

I have just purchase a new ati 7870 gfx card from newegg and am wanting to clean install the drivers.

Do I simply go to device manager and remove the old 8800 drivers? Or is there a more complete method that people prefer?

simply just uninstal the nvidia drivers and then download the latest amd drivers from their website. the drivers are part of the nvidia experience software so simply uninstalling that from the add or remove software page.

you only need to worry about fully removing the nvidia drivers using aftermarket cleaners if you run into driver issues with the new card.

That doesn't work if you're looking to remove drivers, I've uninstalled Experience quite a few times when it's glitched out and it leaves my drivers intact.

yeah I know, but most of the time its not necessary to remove drivers. I have both nvidia and amd drivers on my gaming rig and test bench, I can chop and change cards at will with no ill effects.

I would go before in Bios and see which is the primary graphics setting. Then if one is set i'll set back all the settings for the graphics to "auto" also check if PCI-e setting is set to "auto".

Then i'll reboot for it takes effect, turn off, unplug PC power wire, unmount the old graphics card, plug the DVI cable or what you choosed onto the motherboard as primary monitor.
Start
Uninstall all drivers and leftover (try to uninstall also in "Device Manager" the old one), turn off, plug your new graphics....install your drivers

Ok thanks for your advice. I have left old drivers with new drivers before, surprisingly they didn't conflict to bad other than a constant nag screen saying that catalyst control center didn't support my nvidea card. However i dont thing i will want all that with my new card so i will simply uninstall drivers and run 7870 unless some games wont work with it.

Well having a new card will be nice in my rig. It has been on my improve list FOREVER. Next on the list will be a nice SSD. Sadly money never seems to grow fast enough on my money tree.

All the drivers and software for the nvidia card should show up in Add/Remove Programs in the Control Panel, remove everything from there. Then use the registry cleaner in Ccleaner to cleanup any leftovers, but there shouldn`t be anything leftover from nVidia.
