How do I customize Win7 pagefile to work like WinXP pagefile?

Sorry if someone had asked this before, but I'm looking for a very specific answer. There are many threads of people asking about Win7 pagefile, but none talked about exactly what I'm trying to do.

In WinXP, I like to set my pagefile to the minimum size and then let it grow when needed. The XP pagefile will grow when needed and shrinks back down when not needed.

In Win7, the pagefile grows when needed, but it will not shrink back down at all unless I reboot the system. Is there any way to change this? Maybe a registry change to make the pagefile function like the XP version? Specifically, I set the pagefile to min of 16 meg and allow it to grow base on need. I would like it to shrink back down when there is less demand.

With 16 GB of memory, you don`t even need a page file.

I haven`t used a page file in over 3 years.

Thanks for the prompt reply. I think you misread what I wrote. I set the "minimum" at 16 "meg," not GB. 16 meg is the smallest you can set the initial size.

My system does have 16 GB though. But I'm using programs that require a pagefile and could get it up pretty high. However, I like to reclaim those HDD space when I'm not running the programs without having to reboot the system each time.

If no one has answered your question in over 2 days, maybe it just can`t be done in windows 7.

What size is the hard drive ? How much space is being used by the page file with these programs ? Does it really matter as long as you don`t run out of space when you`re using the PC ?

Worst case scenario, buy a hard drive and dedicate it to a page file.

You do if you want to record crash dumps in the case of a BSOD.

And if a PC is setup and working perfectly it won`t either
