How Do I Disable Taskbar Thumbnail "Aero Peek"?

I apologize in advance if my thread is a duplicate of another thread. My problem is difficult to describe, so I could not find anything through the forum search or Google.

I'll begin by stating what I'm not looking for:

1. I'm not looking for how to increase the delay or the duration of the taskbar thumbnail previews.
2. I'm not looking for how to disable taskbar thumbnail previews.

Here is what I am looking for. If you open up two Windows Explorer windows, by default Windows groups them on the taskbar. If you want to switch between the two, you can click the Explorer ("folder") icon, and out will pop up your two Explorer windows, in miniature thumbnails.

What I dislike is that if you hover your mouse over one of the taskbar thumbnails, all other windows fade out except for the one you are hovering over. It is just like Aero Peek, except for taskbar thumbnails. But in my case, even if I don't hover over the thumbnails and click instead, the delay is too short so that I still get that annoying Aero Peek. That is, even if I know which window I want and click on it, I can't click fast enough to prevent everything else from fading out. It's really annoying, because I already know which window I want so there really isn't any point to fade out and then fade back in the same instant.

This happens with any window open on the taskbar. Is there any way to either

• turn off Aero Peek for the taskbar thumbnails, or
• increase the duration that you have to hover your mouse in order to activate Aero Peek for the taskbar thumbnails?

I've tried turning off Aero Peek, and that didn't work. I've also tried using a program to increase the delay of taskbar thumbnail display, but that did not change the delay of that darn fade to desktop.

You can use METHOD TWO in the tutorial below to increase the ThumbnailLivePreviewHoverTime (ex: 100000 miliseconds) for how long it takes before it opens a Aero Peek live preview of the opened window when you hover the mouse pointer over the taskbar thumbnail preview.

I tried the steps in the tutorial (including a log-off and log-in), but that did not help. It increased the delay of the "Show desktop" Aero Peek, but not for the taskbar thumbnails.

Yes, you're right! The tip you posted only increased the Aero Peek in the bottom-right (the "Show desktop" bar), but not the "Aero Peek" that happens when you hover your mouse over a taskbar thumbnail icon.

I don't want to change the delay time that it takes to show the thumbnail, but I do want to change the time that you have to hover your mouse to fade out all other windows.

Strange, it's suppose to only affect when you hover over the taskbar thumbnails. Restart the computer instead to see if that may help.

I have just tested on my system again, and it works as it should. I added step 3 in METHOD ONE of this tutorial to make it easier to do what you are wanting. You might give it a try to see if it may work better for you.

I tried it again, this time restarting my computer instead of just logging off. To my surprise, it worked ! I no longer see that pesky "Aero Peek"-like fade to desktop.
