I created a windows 7 repair disk , and after I get to the screen where it says "repair your computer" a window comes up asking for user name and password. There are two pre-programmed usernames in the box and it won't let me change to my administrative user name.
What do I try next ?

Make the Win7 DVD provided in Step 5 of Troubleshooting Windows 7 Failure to Start which doesn't require the password and is good to have for getting the vastly superior Clean Reinstall - Factory OEM Windows 7.

You can also try accessing System Recovery Options using Option 1 via F8 Advanced Boot tools at boot. Run Startup Repair repeatedly, then if it doesn't offer it try System Restore.

Other steps are in the first tutorial which try everything possible, leading up to if necessary rescuiing your files to run Recovery or get the Clean Reinstall.
