I installed ie9 bata and like it so far. One thing I do want to change is the URL/search bar to the width of the window instead of size of a tab. If I drag it to lengthen it, the space for tabs got sequeeze.

Hi, and welcome to SF.
To put it simply, there is no such option. both the address bar and the tab bar are in one toolbar.

Hi! You can get around this Maginot-Line bum coding by attacking to the right--right-click on any tab to the right of the URL address field and choose the bottom selection, "Show tabs on a separate row." Although the layout of the result, MSFT style, looks horrible, you will then be able to have a usable URL address field. One wonders what Redmond was thinking. Perhaps that in itself is assuming too much.

This is not an issue anymore. Released version of IE9 allows address bar on its own row.

Yes, you can engage the option as described above. At least as of build 9.0.8112.16421 the setting is still, inexplicably, not the default. Until Redmond fundamentally corrects its mistake it will remain an issue for many.
