I've seen some posts on hiding all the drive letters but this isn't what I'm looking for. I'm looking to hide specific drives & partitions.

I have a PC which shows not only my C: drive for Windows 7 but also various Vista drives & partitions - when I boot into Windows 7.

So, how do I hide my D:, E:, F:, etc. drives which are for Vista? I don't want to see them when I'm in Windows 7.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Angus

Here is a simple way to hide and unhide Disk Drive Partitions from My Computer in any version of windows. This deosn't work with Windows OS that cannot support NTFS.

See: http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/82994-drive-letter-add-change-remove-windows-7-a.html

How to hide a partition in Windows?

  • Right-Click on My Computer [Computer in Windows Vista and Windows 7]
  • Click on Manage
  • From the list of options Click on Disk Management that will be located in the left-bottom section
  • All your hard disk and its partitions will be show in the right hand side
  • Right-Click on the partition that you want to hide and select "Change Drive Letters and Path"
  • Click on "Remove" and click "Yes"
  • Your drive will now be hidden in my computer

To unhide the drive :
  • Go to Disk Management Right-Click on the hidden partition [there will not be a drive letter on the hidden drive] again select "Change Drive Letters and Path"
  • Click on add and select an appropriate drive letter.
  • Click Ok
  • Now the drive is unhided.

BZZZZTT!!! WRONG!

If you try that with the C: drive, you get the message "Assigning or removing drive letters on the current boot or pagefile volume is not allowed."

I guess it's time for you to go back to Windows 101 class.

Welcome to the Forum. You are posting on a old thread. That being said you might want to read in post #1

thanks. this is exactly the information i needed. i use to do this with tweak ui, but i hear win 7 doesn't have one of those. it comes in handy for multiboot, as the op pointed out. it is also useful to hide backup partitions, as many of the large manufacturers configure their systems.

Hiding a drive in Win7 Ult...

I have a 60gb SSD drive that I use as a scratch drive for Photoshop and other programs, and I was wondering if I hide the drive from "My Computer" in Windows 7 will it still be usable as a scratch drive?

I just don't want to keep seeing it when I open the file manager or My Computer, because every once and a while I click on it when I don't want to.

Thanks in advance!

Hi - i just finished a clean installation of Windows 7 Home Premium 64 Bits on UEFI mode. Now, the laptop is in a pristine condition with all the drivers + my favourite software. ;) So, now i want to create a base line image and treat this as a factory/ stock copy and in times of emergency, just to revert back to this stock copy to restore the laptop.

My plan is to store this system image on an external hard disk which is formatted as GPT and then hide this partition. Do you think this will work?

How do I hide a backup partition that doesn't have a drive letter

Hi,
I've just had to reinstall windows 7 Pro on an Asus computer that had the backup files in a hidden partition. That partition is now showing in the folder list as drive F. I want to hide it but when I go to Disk Management it doesn't show a drive letter and when I right click all I get is a link to Help (which isn't much help!). Can anyone suggest a way of hiding it without removing it altogether?
