Solved How Do I Install Windows XP To A New Partition?

Hey SevenForums,
So I would like to install Windows XP onto another partition that I created, but I cant seem to install it. When I boot to the CD, it says windows was shutdown to protect your computer after its loaded everything and is preparing the setup. But when I boot to Windows 7 everything is fine. How can I fix this?

If you're using an XP with SP3 CD, then the problem is most likely that newer hardware doesn't have SATA controller drivers for XP in the disk. You'll have to add them using slipstreaming since the only other way to insert them is via defunct floppy disk. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/72185-sata-drivers-slipstream-into-windows-xp-cd.html?ltr=S

A better way without going to so much trouble is to virtualize XP from within Win7 using freeware like XP Mode, VMWare, Virtual Player or Virtual Box. Try it first to see.

It`s not even worth the effort, just install it in a VM as Greg suggests.

I like using Microsoft`s Virtual PC.

You should get them from the Acer support site.
You need to use the Laptop Model or serial number to find drivers for your laptop.

If it's a newer laptop model, there may not be any XP drivers...
You should add the Laptop Model to your specs.

Thanks, ill try this considering when I installed it to another partition it screwed up my computer and I had to reset it.

Keep in mind if you do install XP to another partition that it will cut Win7 out of the boot, until you repair Win7 by Marking 7 Partition Active then running Startup Repair - Run up to 3 Separate Times. You can then install EasyBCD to add XP to a Dual Boot Menu, which is much easier than doing it from XP partition.
