How do I make a duplicate of a file that sync with each other

Not exactly, you will need to setup a scheduled task that sync's these using a syncing program.

Could you give us some more details about why you need this? It does not sound like a backup scheme. It sounds like you have people editing documents in different locations on one hard drive. A bit more detail might help us to help you.

I want to sync a few excel documents that stay on my external hard drive to my Dropbox folder on my PC, so that I can edit these files from anywhere and they stay in sync with the clone files in my external hard drive when I plug it in. Is there a better way to do it?

Use SyncToy to synchronise these files between your Dropbox folder on your PC, and the external hard drive.

Ideally, I'd like it to be so I can change either of the two files and both files sync with each other. If not, left-to-right syncing will do if the sync happens as soon as I plug in my external drive.

I think SyncToy may be just what I'm looking for. Let's hope I don't need to sync manually.
