Solved how do i make a shortcut to clear my clipboard contents

i tried following the instructions on this site
Create a Shortcut or Hotkey to Clear the Clipboard in Windows - How-To Geek

(creating a shortcut with the command cmd /c “echo off | clip”)

but it doesnt seem to be working...

does anyone know why?

I saw that a while back, but it's my understanding that windows 7 doesn't store clipboard contents, if anyone else can confirm this that would be helpful.

When creating the shortcut, the location is actually "C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c "echo off | clip", then name the shortcut "Clear Clipboard". From there you select an icon for it from shell32.dll in System32 folder. Then change the shortcut to run minimized.

It works; been using it for awhile.

Strange, it seems to work for me by clearing the clipboard using this one with the cmd /c "echo off | clip" command,. However, C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c "echo off | clip" is the same thing, so either should work.

Like Vista, Windows 7 only stores the last Copied or Moved item in the clipboard until the computer restarts, user logs off, or something else is copied or moved.

I did the exact same as "infomouse", same site, same command and same result - it didn't work for me either. A while later logged in here and came across this page, followed RA's recommendation of typing in the location as "C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c "echo off | clip" instead of the "cmd /c “echo off | clip” and bingo! it worked. So, now I've two shortcuts, one works and the other doesn't. I checked the properties and at least I couldn't see any difference at all in "Target" in the Shortcut tab. Explanations anyone???

That response was fast, thanks. I guess its one of those things - inexplicable, like having to reboot to get something to work again. BTW, rebooting my notebook hasn't changed the status of the shortcuts in question! But, great to know that there are fast responders like Brink out there.

Hi guys,

I still have a problem connected with this shortcut.

I used C:\Windows\System32\cmd.exe /c "echo off | clip this command and it only appears massage:
for example :
6 of 24 Clipboard
item not collected.

So it is working but it can not clear clipboard and only show this massage.

Please help me!

Unfortunately this it is no working like clipboard shortcut...still is problem connected with "Item not collected" and clipboard in excel is still full.

Please help me anybody.

Yeah, this would only work with the Windows clipboard and not with the Office clipboard.

For the Office clipboard see this below instead for all options.
