How Do I Make Windows Update NOT Install Automatically?

I tried setting it to download updates but to choose whether to install them or not and I believe they still got installed automatically, because the windows update icon in the notification area disappeared and also in my update history it showed that 2 important updates were installed on that particular day. I now chose the option to let me choose whether to download and install updates and will see what happens with this one? Thanks for any positive feedback!lol

From your description this is the way mine is set.
I manually check for updates once during the day just to be sure.
