Solved How do i merge two partitions with seperate page file and system?

Hi all,

Please take a look at the screenshot first.



Apparently I am currently running Win 7 on C drive and Vista is on another partition - drive D. How do i merge the two drives into one, assuming that i no longer need vista?

I was planning to reformat the D drive but my assumption is that there is no way i could just do a reformat since it is active and has the system and the page file?

You don't "merge" them.

You delete one, which results in "unallocated space".

You then reassign that "unallocated space" to the desired partition. You'll probably have to use Partition Wizard for this step.

But you don't just jump in with an axe.

This is not an easy task. Here are the steps you need to take:

1. Move the bootmgr from D to C. http://www.sevenforums.com/tutorials/209885-bootmgr-move-c-easybcd.html

2. Delete D to get the 80GB unallocated space.

3. Extend E to the left with Partition Wizard. Best Free Partition Manager Freeware and free partition magic for Windows 7, Windows 8, Windows Vista and Windows XP 32 bit & 64 bit. MiniTool Free Partition Manager Software Home Edition.

4. Shrink E by 80GB - use also Partition Wizard

5. Backup N to another drive

6. Delete N so that the 80GB unallocated space and the 9.7GB unallocated space of N become one contiguous unallocated space.

7. Extend C to the left by 80GB with Partition Wizard.

8. Define a new N partition in the remaining 9.7GB

9. Move the data that was backed up into this new partition.

I deleted all my partitions, used Gparted to move the drive C partition before the unallocated space and resized it.

All is well now! Thanks for the help!

You could have done this using free Partition Wizard bootable CD which is the only partitioning tool besides Disk Mgmt which will not fail.

After deleting other partitions slide C intact to the left, resize its right border to give it more space.
