Merge two partitions on a disk without losing data on them?

I have a 2TB Western Digital disk with two partions on it (P1Green & P2Green). Is it possible to merge these partitions into one without losing data on either of them?
I can copy data from each partion on a new drive, then format the present drive and then copy back the data, but I don't want to do this.

Create a disk image as a backup before you begin.

Another advatage of backing up the data is that you can keep that backup for when your 2TB Western Digital disk fails.
