Solved How do I move the Libraries folder location in File Explorer?

The default build on my work machine is really annoying me.

They moved around default locations of several system-type folders.

Specifically, the Libraries folder in File Explorer is not on it's own root. it is instead, under the "Desktop" folder. I want to return the Libraries folder to its own "root" location on the left nav.

Below is an ASCII representation of my current file explorer:

* Favorites
- * Desktop
- * Downloads
- * Recent Places

* Desktop
- * Libraries
- * Computer
- * Network
- * Control Panel
- * Recycle
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I want it to be:

* Favorites
- * Desktop
- * Downloads
- * Recent Places

* Libraries
- * Documents
- * Music
- * Pictures
- * Videos

* Desktop
- * Computer
- * Network
- * Control Panel
- * Recycle

Any idea how to fix it?

PS - they had also added the User Folder to the desktop in the above tree but your site had a tutorial on how do kill that off the list (so thanks for that)

EDIT: The solution was:

Folder Options > General > Navigation Pane > Uncheck "Show all folders" puts everything under its own root.

Hello CodeCowboy, and welcome to Seven Forums.

You could right click in the navigation pane and uncheck the Show all folders option to have it close to that, but without Desktop listed.

If you wanted Control Panel to still be there, then this will show you how to add it.

Well, that lets me remove it, but I don't want it removed, just MOVED... to its own root.

because right now it is somehow listed under the desktop rather than being on its own.

I *did* check the registry settings and it is already showing as "showing" the Library, which is what I want... I just want it in another place.

I mean the "Computer" folder is also under "Desktop" which is stupid. I basically want to remove the additional "Desktop" folder that the others are sitting in so they can be at the root level again.

Yeah,i got that you wanted to move it ,the tutorial by brink also alows you to add it back ,i wondered if you removed it and then added it back whether it would revert back to default position.. im wondering whether you should do a sfc/scannow.
i would ask others opinion on that though as it may revert changes you have to keep. as it is a works machine.

Every system I've ever built with Windows 7 (50+ at least) have shown the Libraries exactly how you have them listed, under Desktop.

both my desktop and lois's lappy show the settings with libraries separate from desktop.

Mine are 100% default. I don't even use Libraries, so I make no changes to them or how they display. I have never come across a system that looks like yours...not even any of the 30+ I've set up in my company.

First, thanks to everyone who has replied thus far.

Second, I've tried removing the library folder through the registry and adding it back. It did get removed, but when it came back it was in exactly the same place.

Again, for those interested, the reason my pane is set up this way is because my corporation monkeyed with the defaults for some unknown reason. It seems completely ridiculous to me.

And Lastly, @logicearth, YOU WIN! Unchecking that option rearranged it to be the normal view! Huzzah! I'm so happy, thanks!
