Hi. This may be a dumb question but how do I change the 'pointing to' of a file. I created a virtual XP machine but when I attempt to run it it returns 'RogersXP (the machine name) was unable to write to one of it's virtual disks'. The fix for this apparently is here. Found by Googling:

"The fix here is to reference the VHD file by share name, not drive name. So instead of simply pointing to C:\MyVirtualPCs\MyFavoriteVirtualPC.vhd, you have to point to \\ComputerName:\MyVirtualPCs\MyFavoriteVirtualPC.vhd."

My computer name is 'Dodger'. How and where do I introduce that?

Thanks.

Is the vhd you are attempting to access on the computer named Dodger and is that the computer that you are running the virtual software (VirtualPC?) from? If everything is on the same computer then creating a share and then referencing that share shouldn't be necessary. A share is something you create on a remote computer so that other computers on your network can have access to the folder the share points to.

Thanks Strollin. You're always helpful. Yes I found out that this isnt the problem. The problem was not unchecking the read only option on the VHD file. It now works.

Now I have only to discover why my mouse pointer keeps freezing and unfreezing since I installed the Virtual machine!

Cheers.
