Solved How Do I Redirect Downloaded Items?

Windows 7 automatically directs any downloaded programs to its 'directory of choice:'

C:\Users\'MyName'\Download

I'd prefer to continue to use a folder on another drive:

D:\My Documents\Downloads

How do I instruct Windows 7 to do this?

A search for 'redirect downloads' yielded 735 hits. None of those that floated to the top looked even remotely useful.

It's not a function of Windows.

It's a setting in your browser's configuration.

I have no idea where that is in Internet Explorer, but in Firefox it is set at tools/options on the General tab.

Thanks for the prompt and informative (and worthy of accolades if the system allowed it) responses.

Somehow in the re installation of Mozilla SeaMonkey the setting got lost. I'd last set it enough years ago so that I'd completely forgotten how it is done.

FWIW, in SeaMonkey the menu is under Edit>Preferences>Downloads, just in case another SeaMonkey user finds this thread.

For FireFox

To set the default download location, click on orange Firefox button on the top left > options > options > General tab and then click on browse inside the Downloads box to select the location you want your downloads to be saved in.

For Chrome:

1. Click the Chrome menu
   
   on the browser toolbar.
2. Select Settings.

1. Click Show advanced settings and scroll down to the "Downloads" section.
2. To change the default download location, click Change and select where you'd like your files to be saved.

• If you'd rather choose a specific location for each download, select the "Ask where to save each file before downloading" checkbox.
