Hi, I need some help.
My uncle - probably the only person in the world that knows less than me about this kind of stuff - asked me to copy some pictures from a flash drive. There was only one file on the drive and I didn't really paid much attention. I clicked on it and it told me it needed to know the program to open it. So I checked the file again and it didn't have any of the regular extensions , instead it had a number ( like : filename.264 ). In the properties it said that it will open with windows shell common dll. I thought it probably was associated with a specifc program and because I was told it was pictures I thought I could try and see if it would open with windows photo viewer. I figure if it didn't I could try other programs. But I clicked too fast and forgot that by default the box saying always use selected program to open this kind of file is always checked for some reason, so windows photo viewer opened, and it said it couldn't open that file. WHen I went back to try opening with another program I realized that I had made windows photo viewer the default. I know how to change it, but only into another program. What I want is to get it back as it was before and have no idea of completely remove the association with the program and have it back as it was before I changed it. How can I do it? is it even possible?

It would be interesting to know what file this is in order to help know what program is needed to open/extract the file, you said it's called something like "filename.264" how big is the file?

Regards,
Jamie

oops again I clicked before I posted my thanks to all. I need to pay more attention :) I ended up figuring out what program opened the file so I didn't have to remove the association, just change the default program to use it. But I kept the links because I do know I tend to forget to unclick that silly box.
Once again thank you so much for responding so promptly and giving me good suggestions
Ana
