In Win 7/64, I want to remove the favorites bar folder . Currently I have 25 of them. I have changed attributes to hidden, disabled the favorites bar in group policy editor and so far, all I get is more copies. What do I need to do to be rid of these annoying folders
Go to upper right corner where you see a file called "Other bookmarks"
Right click on that and you will see a check mark for Showing bookmarks. Just click on that and your Favorites will go away.
There is also 3 lines on top of each other that list Bookmarks and when you click on it opens up and gives you the same option.
By the way... I am using Google Chrome to do all this.
Let us know if you need more help.

If you mean in IE, then be sure to turn off the Favorites Bar first (right click on title bar of IE), then you should be able to just delete them in your C:\Users\(User-Name)\Favorites folder.
Hope this helps,
Shawn

To The Howling Wolves:
Thank you.
I am using IE, not sure of the version with Google(not Chrome) as home page. Couldn't find the areas you referred to.
To Brink:
Thank you too.
When I right click on the menu bar, the Favorites Bar is grayed out. When I delete the favorites bar folders in my Favorites, it comes back , usually more than one copy.
Favorites Bar is not checked. Returned to Not Configured in GPE. I deleted 31 copies of the Favorites Bar folder. So far, none have returned. I will monitor the situation and advise.
Thank you.

I was able to duplicate your issue when I tried to delete the C:\Users\(User-Name)\Favorites\Favorites Bar (Links) folder in Windows Explorer while the Favorites bar was still turned on in IE.
Give this a shot below to see if it may toggle it to work properly again.
Turn on the Favorites bar in IE.
Click on Favorites (Menu bar) -> Add to Favorites bar to add anything to the Favorites bar.
Turn off the Favorites bar.
In Internet Explorer, click on Favorites (Menu bar), right click on the Favorites Bar folder, click on Delete, and approve any prompts.

Brink:
Just so we are on the same page, I need to go to greater detail.
The Favorites Bar Folder I am referring to is a sub-folder of the Favorites folder in Windows Explorer, not the Favorites Bar of Internet Explorer Menu Bar.
For some reason, there are 3 folders named Favorites in WE. One at the very top when WE is opened. This is empty and can not be deleted. One under users and another at the end of WE that appears to be a copy of the one under users. These last two are the folders that contain the sub-folder Favorites Bar that I want to remove.
I can't remember exactly when they first appeared but I suspect it was after one of many Windows Updates was installed within the last 30 days or so.
I tried your suggestion and within 5 seconds of deleting the Favorites Bar, it was recreated.
Thank you for your help.
The C:\Users\(User-Name)\Favorites\Favorites Bar folder is for the Favorites bar in Internet Explorer.
That folder is where the links you add to the Favorites bar in IE are saved at.
Since you have three C:\Users\(User-Name)\Favorites folders, there may be an issue with it. As a test, use OPTION TWO below to make sure that this Favorites folder is set with it's default location.
Brink:
I do not have three C:\Users\(User-Name)\Favorites folders. I have one Favorites Folder at the very top of WE. The first line and is empty. I have one Favorites Folder as the very last entry of WE, and it was a duplicate of the C:\Users\(User-Name)\Favorites folders which has now disappeared after step 2.I'm beginning to think there is no way to remove this annoying folder. I guess I could live with it.
Since you have the Favorites folder in 3 locations is exactly why I believe that there may be an issue with your C:\Users\(User-Name)\Favorites folder if it's not set properly in the registry to be at that location.
That's why I would recommend to try OPTION TWO as posted above to restore the default location to see if it may also help with the reproducing Favorites Bar folder since that folder is in the Favorites folder by default. They are tied together, so if one is messed up, it could very well affect the other.
It's certainly worth a try since all it's doing is setting them back to default. If it doesn't help, then at least you ruled this out as a cause.

Brink:
Running through your option two restored the Favorites Folder to the User location. Of course it is empty with the exception of the Favorites Bar folder. I will try deleting it and see if it comes back.
I will keep you updated as to any progress.
Thanks again.
Very interesting issue I might say,
If it returns add some screen shot to show where it's reproducing,
Do you have a Skydrive folder under Favorites ?
Cheers.
