How do I rid my desktop of this Gstatic notice in the tool bar?

I just noticed this thing the other day hiding in the translucent taskbar near the start button.

If I unlock my taskbar then hover over the blurry outline it says " Waiting for Gstatic.com".

I understand this thing is related to Google but why can't I get rid of it? Numerous scans with Norton and Malwarebytes does nothing.

If I search the computer for 'gstatic' I get no results and it doesn't appear in any installed programs list.

Seems to me its taking up resources but I can't prove it, but it needs to go! But how??

Thanks to all in advance,

J T

Hi wither 2,

Yes I use Google ( hate it but use it)

Disconnection from the web makes no difference that silly line remains. Can't really say when it appeared but it's recent is all I know. Oddly enough when I use Linux Mint, I do not have that blurred line. of course there's no start menu either.

To me it's more invasive Google crap that no one needs. I surely don't buy the explanation, who knows whats REALLY being sent???? <sigh>

Thanks,

J T :D

Beware "Spyhunter"

It is recommended to install a program called Spyhunter to find ,allegedly, the 'Gstatic' program.

DO NOT INSTALL SPYHUNTER~

1/ It didn't find "Gstatic"
2/ It's not FREE, for it to remove anything you have to pay for it.
3/ Getting rid of it is a pain in the @@s

Obviously the company that makes Spyhunter, Enigma Inc or whatever, is responsible for the posting saying Gstatic is a virus.

Appreciate the help but DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME installing Spyhunter it's useless.:mad::mad:

Still there darn it!

Sorry to hear that this caused you more trouble. Have you been able to get rid of Gstatic?.

Hi Ranger4,

Sorry to say 'no' the bleeding thing is still there in spite of my efforts to get rid of it. I've done all sorts of scans and searches, including running all them in safe mode. Still no joy! can't find any reference to Gstatic at all even in the registry! But that flipping message is resident somewhere but I can't find it. To be honest to even read what it says you have to mouse over the very edge of it and read it one word at a time, it never shows the whole string so you must read it piecemeal one word at a time.

I've checked all the running processes and see nothing of note, but it could be being called by something without the Gstatic name. Whilst in safe mode I didn't see the message... BUT of course we aren't using the same video drivers and everything is HUGE.... the message may well have still been there but just not visible due to the size of the desktop.

Cheers mate and thanks for your interest!

" JT "

As I understand it, you're internet browser is not Google but you're using the Google search engine. In any browser, you can change the search engine in its settings. For instance, I'm using Bing as the search engine in my browsers but I could change it.

If I turn off the 'aero' theme the message is gone

Since the Gstatic message is blurry looking, I wondered if disabling the "aero' theme would effect it. It does, the message box is gone entirely with that change in place.

But I am sure that the thing is still there you just can't see it next to the START button.

I've accomplished nothing except get it out of my sight! Can't say how long it was there maybe a long time and I never saw it or bothered to notice. Just thought someone might find it interesting that w/o AERO the box is invisible.

There are two versions: Free and Pro.
The pro is paid. The Free is free.
When installing it will ask if you want to try the Pro. You probably answered yes.
I have the free version in my computer and never was asked to pay for it.

OK I get it I may have inadvertently chose the wrong one of the two. :( I'm glad it works for you!

It makes no difference to me as the pay version found nothing related to Gstatic which was the point of the exercise to begin with, If it had found something I'd be tickled pink and ready to open my wallet! But it didn't find anything. So back to square one.

I have turned off the 'aero mode' which in turn hides the message about trying to connect to Gstatic. It's not a fix but it is a solution of sorts.

You didn't respond to me about the search engine. It could also be an add-on in the browser.

Are you using Googles DNS service?? If so I sugest that you change your setting to cloudflare dns. Set the Preferred to 1.1.1.1 and Alternate to 1.0.0.1 Save the settings and exit. You'll notes a significant speed increase in pages opening and that message should disappear. Keep us posted.
