How do I set my multimedia keys to work on other media players?

My laptop's multimedia keys (play/pause, stop, etc.) are the Fn+<arrow key>. I want to use those to control my "main" music player (Winamp in this case). I've already set them in its (Winamp's) settings (they're even in the hotkey list), but they don't work and the Play/Pause just opens Windows Media Center or plays a media file on WMP (if it's open).
So is there a way to unbind them from Media Center (so it won't appear every time I press Fn+Down or Play/Pause) and make them work on any other media players (or just Winamp)?

i tried this some time ago and failed , and when i remapped the hotkeys for winamp ,i found that you have to click on winamp via the mouse for winamp to take focus before you can use the hotkeys, so as i was using the mouse i decided not to bother with hotkeys, i have a winamp skin that minimises to sit in a thin bar above the taskbar so its easy for me to pause /play /ffw /rwd ,stop etc

Thanks for the reply and idea. Though, sometimes something could get in the skin's way or vice versa. So, I guess I'll stick with the taskbar controls for now. But if anyone else has other ideas, I'd appreciate it.

i have winamp set to always on top. and if i need to move it there is a button to click that stops it being on top until you want it back on top.
once you get used to it it simple and effective.
