How do I stop applications from automatically installing on my comp?

Hey guys, I installed Ventrilo on my computer a few days ago, and I believe the installation wizard installed more than once. Now every time I start my computer, I get a message asking me to install it. I even tried uninstalling then original Ventrilo App and following the wizard to install again, but after I restart my computer, the message for install, still pops up. As well, after I toggle cancel another install box pops up. Any help/ suggestions will be greatly appreciated!

Hello Stephan and welcome to Seven Forums.

If I remember correctly Ventrilo has two different downloads. One is the Client and the other is the Server. All users need the Client but only one person needs to host the Server. Everyone else with a Client installed will connect to the Server. So are you being asked to install the Client or the Server?

You might have better luck uninstalling Ventrilo by using Revo Uninstaller. It has a 30 day free trial of the Pro version which includes more advanced scannng techniques as well as a "forced uninstall" mode that ... well ... forces subborn applications to uninstall themselves.

Hey Marsmimar, so I found out that both download windows are 64bit client downloads. So after downloading Revo Uninstaller, I was able to uninstall Ventrilo, but after restarting my computer I'm still prompted with 2 security open file windows and then 2 computer access download windows. Also please take note that I used Crome to download vent. After looking into it a bit, I found out that when the window pops up, it says the file is located in my AppData File in an Install folder. After looking in AppData, I wasn't able to find a Install folder, only a InstallShield Folder (I did turn on show hidden folders). Thanks for the suggestion!

Unfortunately, I've never used Chrome so I have to plead complete ignorance as to how it's set up or what it does during downloads. You said you looked in you AppData file. How did you access it? I use the start button search feature. Type:

c:\users\[your name]\appdata\

As soon as you type in the final back slash you should have three options to choose from: Local, LocalLow and Roaming. You might find Ventrilo in one or more of those folders.

You could also use regedit to search the registry (if you feel comfortable doing that) for any reference to Ventrilo. Create a restore point (or export the entire registry to your desktop) just in case. Ventrilo is a unique enough name that any hit should be able to be safely deleted.

I access it buy going into folder settings and allowing hidden files to be shown. And when I get into Roaming (Where the file is locaed) I cant find the "Install" Folder, I see the other ones, just not the install one. Where should I go from here?
