How do I stop my mouse pointer from changing

I make a living thru a VPN and when I'm in the VPN and special software my mouse pointer gets
so small I can't find it at times. Once I leave that window and go to another window/screen it changes
back. I have the box unchecked in pointers settings for "Allow themes to change mouse pointers" but
this doesn't help. Any ideas would be greatly helpful.
